Seasonal distribution of white-winged scoters (Melanitta fusca) wintering in southeast Alaska: a satellite telemetry approach. (an element of SDJV Project #1: Seasonal distribution of scoters in Alaska)

Project Number: 1.1
Year Funded: 2001
Lead Institution(s): Alaska Department of Fish and Game
Project Lead: Dan Rosenberg
Collaborator(s): USFWS, USGS, NMFS, Sitka Raptor Center
Location: Alaska
Focal Species: White-winged Scoter (Melanitta delgandi)
Project Description: Since 1977, numbers of all scoters (M. Spp.) breeding in Alaska and western Canada have declined. Causes of these declines are unknown. This study was intended to improve winter methodologies for the handling of surgically compromised birds and gather information to help identify causes for this decline.
